GMAT SC1000 Question No #502

502. Many writers of modern English have acquired careless habits that damage the clarity of their prose, but these habits can be broken if they are willing to take the necessary trouble.

(A) but these habits can be broken
(B) but these habits are breakable
(C) but they can break these habits
(D) which can be broken
(E) except that can be broken

Correct Answer is between A and C

I choose C as it has active voice.

Here A also seems to be correct. But it has passive voice. So its a matter of BEST CHOICE

ANS IS C

Learnings:

1) Choose the BEST CHOICE
2) Active voice is better than passive voice as an answer on GMAT

The first half of the sentence is active and so we have to make sure the second half is also ACITVE.

If the sentence started with

"Careless habits of most writers..."
then "A" would have been the right one..
